PR Award won in Egypt!

Being in Egypt with the recent troubles was an interesting experience. As we were some distance from Cairo we were not in any danger, but with communications difficult and emails suspended it felt like we were on the other side of the world!

The organisation I was with is Photo Training Overseas, is is a wonderful week mixing with some of Europe's most amazing photographers. A whole week immersed in photography, talking shop till the small hours after days filled with lectures and shooting on location.

I was lucky enough to be awarded PTO PR Photographer of 2011, winning myself a fantastic Fuji which I am looking forward to having fun with.

Below are just a few of the images I made whilst in Egypt, more will follow soon.

Next Training Course...

For anyone who reads my blog and interested in joining us for a 2 day intensive wedding photography training course then the next one is on the Monday the 22nd and Tuesday 23rd of March. The course is a 2 day including shooting with models, I can't promise such dramatic weather as we had in Turkey but I can promise lots of new tips and techniques. I will also be sharing the way I achieve lighting such as in the Turkey shots below so that you may put this into practice in your own work.

For more details look at the training pages of our website or call Jo or I at the studio on:

My training course in Turkey at PTO

When teaching at PTO in Turkey I continued the theme started in London of shooting in low light levels and using off camera flash for dramatic results. Here are just a few of the shots taken over the 4 workshops I ran.

Models Sasha and Simon certainly became aware of the terrible weather we had whilst modeling for my classes.

Sorry Guys!!

Last few days teaching.....

It seems like an age since I last posted.... But does anyone read a blog anyway??? :-)

I was away with my family in Mallorca visiting my Grandmother for a week, wonderful weather, we were very lucky. I will post some images soon, also from the last few shoots I have done...

I arrived back on Tuesday afternoon and went straight into running a 2 day training course in wedding photography from here at my studio at the Paintworks in Bristol. We had a great group of delegates, who seemed to get on and share lots of ideas and experiences as we went. The first day we looked at photographing in low light, difficult venues etc, putting all that the delegates learned into practice during a session with models in the afternoon. On the second day of the photographic training course we looked at marketing, off camera flash, album design and of course training in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop

Here are just a few images shot during the first day...

For more information about my training courses please visit the training section of my website: http://www.documentaryimage.com/training/index.htm or call Joris, Jo or I at the studio on Bristol, 0117 972 0834

Starting out in Digital SLR Photography course

Today saw the first session of a new course that I am running here at the studio. It is a feel good beginners course where over 5 weekly session each student will build a body of work to display at the last session.

It was action packed and very well received. We are meeting again over 4 Wednesdays to complete the course and I will post the best images produced by my students at the end of the course.

As this course was filled up easily (we keep the group small to just 8 places) I am wondering how many other people would be interested if I run it again after Easter.....? If this is something that you may be interested in please reply to this post or email or phone us at the studio to register your interest.

I am approaching this course a little like how I used to teach A level photography at Weston College. it will be module based (this one being module 1), so future modules will include topics such as: building picture stories, documentary photography, the human body etc. Each student may attend as many or few modules as they wish.

Please get in touch if you may be interested studio@documentaryimage.com or give us a call 0117 972 0834. You can find out more information on all the photographic training courses I run (training in wedding photography, studio lighting and location portraiture as well as training in Photoshop aimed at photographers in the industry or starting out) please visit the photography training pages on our website: http://www.documentaryimage.com/training/index.htm

Wedding photography course.

The following shots are from the last 2 day wedding photography course we ran here from my studio. We had a great group of delegates, who all showed keen interest and considerable talent. The course was fast and furious as usual, and some fabulous images resulted.

Strong striking colours lent an Indian feel to the images, Emily and Salwar make great models.
